At Didion, we believe in the power of food to bring comfort and nourishment to families in need. That’s why we were proud to donate more than 9,500 bags of corn grits to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, helping stock pantry shelves and provide versatile, nutritious meals.
During a recent visit to Extended Hands Pantry (a Second Harvest Foodbank pantry partner), we met Rebeca, a mom of three who shared how much these donations mean to families like hers. For many, grits are a staple ingredient for well-balanced meals and create comforting dishes—especially during times when budgets are tight. Corn grits are naturally gluten-free and rich in complex carbohydrates, making them a nutrient-rich staple for families.
Jenny Czerkas, who leads Extended Hands Pantry in Madison, explained the impact of this donation:
“It’s huge for us. We specialize in offering culturally diverse foods, and the quality of these grits is something we rarely have access to. With food inflation, our wholesale options are limited. We’re a small pantry serving 500 families a week, and we just don’t have the buying power for something like this.”
Michelle Orge, President & Executive Director of Second Harvest, emphasized the importance of partnerships like this:
“Ending hunger in our community is only possible when we all work together. Donations of high-quality, nutritious food make it possible for Second Harvest and our network of partners and programs to meet the needs of those facing hunger in southwestern Wisconsin. We are very grateful for Didion’s generosity and commitment to our community.”
Riley Didion, CEO of Didion, Inc., shared why this collaboration matters:
“At Didion, feeding the world starts with caring for our own communities. This donation reflects our core values of stewardship and partnership—working together to ensure families have access to wholesome, nutritious food. By teaming up with Second Harvest and local food banks, we’re living our mission and making a real difference for neighbors in need.”
This partnership is more than a donation—it’s a shared commitment to building a stronger, healthier community. By joining forces with Second Harvest and local pantries, Didion is helping ensure that families across Southern Wisconsin have access to the nutritious food they deserve today and for the future.
