Name: Derrick Nelson
Title: Milling Intern
University: Kansas State University

What drew you to intern with Didion?

There are many reasons I chose to intern with Didion, but the main reason would be a large amount of growth with the new mill. This is an extremely unique opportunity to be a part of the set-up and adjustment of a new corn mill. I knew that I could see, be apart of, and implement impacting change.

What projects have you worked on/are currently working on?

I am working on optimizing the yield from the de-germers. Once this is accomplished the plan is to proceed with making flow adjustments to reduce fat and increase the quality of our products.

What attracted you to the milling profession?

I chose milling because I enjoy the agricultural industry and knew I wanted to make a career of it. Milling was perfect in that it is both challenging, rewarding, and a good mixture of mental and manual labor. I enjoy critical thinking and problem solving, but also being able to dig into machinery and be directly involved the solving problems.
